Don't make the same mistake I did though: Just because your computer has a DisplayPort and your monitor has DVI, doesn't mean it will work with your computer. I learned you need a "Multi-mode" DisplayPort on your computer (the logo will have two plus-signs in addition to the D) for this cable to work.
This is because the DisplayPort and DVI signals are fundamentally different and this cable does not have any conversion circuitry. A Multi-mode DisplayPort has circuitry for sending both DVI and DisplayPort signals out of the port. This cable just changes the shape of the port.
There exist cables with conversion circuitry ("active adapters"); they are usually around $100 and require both DisplayPort and USB input (here's a miniDisplayPort one: Accell B087B-003J UltraAV miniDisplayPort/DVI-D Dual-Link Adapter). The USB port provides power for the conversion circuitry.
If you have an HDMI port, you are better off converting that to DVI, as HDMI and DVI have identical video signals, so cables are simple and cheap (online, at least).
